Screen shows the classic two-dial layout with SAFE Component Protection in the centre. Q5 FY: most builds carry 80A 920 790; an 8W5 unit fits only where the label on the cluster in the car reads 8W5.

8W5 920 790 without a suffix letter is the launch-production Virtual Cockpit of the B9 platform, built for 2016 and early 2017 cars; the label on this unit reads SW X223 / HW H08. The base number and the B, C and D suffixes are the pre-facelift 32-pin units and are the straightforward choice for a 2016–2018 A4 or A5. The 790 X shown in parts catalogues is the exchange version of the same base number. Suffix E and later carry software that 2016–2018 control units reject without a downgrade.
