Audi VIN decoder for instrument clusters: which 920 7xx family fits your car

What the tool reads, and what it cannot
- Characters 1–3 name the manufacturer and plant group: WAU is Audi AG for cars, WA1 the SUV line, WUA Audi Sport, LFV the FAW-Audi joint venture in China. A Chinese-built A4L, A6L or Q5L takes different cluster numbers (8WD, 4KA, 80B prefixes) from the European car.
- Characters 7–8 carry the model code on European VINs, for example F4 for the A4 B9, F5 for the A5, FY for the Q5, 4M for the Q7, F2 for the A6 C8, F8 for the A8 D5. North American VINs use a different scheme in positions 4–8; the tool still reads the year and manufacturer.
- Character 10 is the model year: H 2017, J 2018, K 2019, L 2020, M 2021, N 2022, P 2023, R 2024, S 2025.
- The VIN does not encode the exact cluster suffix, software index, adaptive cruise, head-up display or wheel-size variant. That is why we still ask for a photo of the label on your current cluster before shipping.
